Passed out booklets containing information and history about the lake chain and certain projects.
Last year we raised $800, most went to keeping the channels clear of lily pads, with help from Ken the harvester
We would like to be able to get two pontoons through each channel at a time!
Things we can do to help:
Many of the species of plants in our lake are native. We are at a critical time to deal with issues such as sedimentation, and runoff from fields nearby and the surrounding dirt roads that are draining into the lake. Solitude Lake Management and Aquatic Weed Control (we use this company), were contacted and will continue to be in contact for their opinions.
Need some ideas to take care of your properties? Check out the “Lakeside Landscaping and Lawn Care” brochure. This brochure is included in the homeowners packet we pass out to new members. If you need this packet or any brochures please contact Pat Marks at 419-304-5568 or by email to [email protected].
Problem: Sedimentation
Variable Cost Solution: Look into dredging
Low Cost Solutions:
Things to work on:
A Volunteer sign-up sheet was passed around to sign up to tackle the aforementioned issues/questions. We are so proud to say that EVERYONE AT THE MEETING SIGNED UP AS A VOLUNTEER!!!! How often does that happen?!

Last year we raised $800, most went to keeping the channels clear of lily pads, with help from Ken the harvester
- Ken needs at least a foot of water for the harvester to float
- He marks tree stumps
We would like to be able to get two pontoons through each channel at a time!
Things we can do to help:
- Drive boats through the lily pads in the channels to help keep them wider
- Participate in chemical weed control

- Tip: Let your grass and wildflowers grow at the edge of the lake to catch more runoff.
- Tip: To keep geese off your lawn, put up a little plastic fence along the water. This will help to keep goose poop off your lawn, along with helping to keep phosphorus out of the lake.
Problem: Sedimentation
Variable Cost Solution: Look into dredging
- Cost: approximately 6 figures
- First step: sampling our soils. Cost: $10-15k for the whole lake
- BUT to mitigate costs, we can pick specific areas to work on
- We can also reach out to organizations/universities for funding and help.
- We can do some of the testing ourselves.
Low Cost Solutions:
- Have an annual cleanup day on the lake
- Pick an area and get as many volunteers as possible
- Hire Ken the harvester to work on properties and common areas
Things to work on:
- Can we get some help from MSU (water, soil, aquatic life sampling)?
- Can we get some help from a lawyer on the lake?
- Can we get ahold of Hillsdale road commission and they will really work with us as a group?
- Can we get ahold of our road and drain commissioner to come out and speak to us?
- Can we get volunteers to go to Camden and Reading Township meetings to address our concerns as needed?
- Are we still experiencing issues with beavers?
A Volunteer sign-up sheet was passed around to sign up to tackle the aforementioned issues/questions. We are so proud to say that EVERYONE AT THE MEETING SIGNED UP AS A VOLUNTEER!!!! How often does that happen?!
